Paul Gilbert's Musical Life
When shredding and fast guitar playing is mentioned, one of the first names on the list is Paul Gilbert`s. Former Racer-X axeman, Mr Gilbert is now a very successful solo artist. Gilbert has been voted number 4 on a list in GuitarOne magazine of the "Top 10 Greatest Guitar Shredders of All Time", as well as a spot in Guitar World's "50 Fastest Guitarists of All Time" list. His major instruments are Ibane PGM series instruments, identified by the unique painted on "F-holes". Although earlier PGM models featured the double locking tremolo system, many of his guitars (such as his main PGM300) were modified to accommodate a fixed bridge after he stopped using whammy bars in the early 90s, hence the Ibanez PGM301 guitar.
Ibanez PGM301 Features
To be one of the PGM series, as well as a Paul Gilbert signature design, Ibanez PGM301 was manufactured in 2003 based on the PGM300. In 2003, Gilbert substituted the wiring board of the PGM300 with a mounted one himself and changed it being the hard-tail bridge, which is the later construction PGM 301. The PGM301 is a production model based on classic PGM300, featuring a hard-tail bridge instead of a tremolo. Like the PGM300, the PGM301 has a basswood body, a maple fingboard and Paul Gilbert's signature painted F-holes. Our replicated pGM301 is completely built and assembled by highly skilled craftsman using the best parts & wood selection (all with top wood).
Paul Gilbert once commented PGM301,"So after years and years and years of playing my PGM guitars, I started to come up with my favorite small details. The PGM301 is the culmination of these details. For one thing and probably the most unique about it, it's non-trem. There's no tremolo bar on it. It does have that really solid feel of a non-tremolo bridge. To me, it's a little more Spartan of a guitar. It makes me have big calluses on my hand. I think I improve as a player from having to get the vibrato with my left hand rather than using the whammy. It's a very simple guitar, but the important work on the guitar is done on the things that matter most. The action is great, the tone is great, and the playability is great. It's a really reliable workhorse of a guitar. It always sounds great. I've done a million shows with that one. In fact, the PGM300 is really just a PGM301. It just doesn't look as good, because I cut it up and did all those modifications to it. The PGM301 is the result. It's nice and clean. Enjoy the PGM301. That's the one I play. Thank you so much."
