Birth of the Jimmy Page Dragon Telecaster

There is a fantastic story about the Jimmy Page Dragon Telecaster. In 1961, John Owen bought a 1959 Telecaster with £107 and soon gave it to Jeff Beck, who was Owen's band mate in Deltones. In 1965, Beck took this guitar to Yardbirds as his back option for a Gibson Les Paul. Beck changed the original white Bakelite pickguard of the 59 Telecaster into a handmade black pickguard. Jimmy Page took the Dragon tele from Yardbirds to Led Zeppelin as his main guitar. The Dragon Tele did not fade out from visions until in April 1969 he bought the “number one” Gibson Les Paul from Joe Walsh. In 1967, Jimmy Page made a great modification to this guitar, painting a red, green and orange dragon on the ash body and replacing the pickguard into a clear acrylic pickguard with a piece of diffraction grating film underneath. From then on, the famous Dragon Tele came into being in guitar history.

Jimmy Page Dragon Telecaster Woods

The body is made of ash wood, just the same as the original guitar, with maple neck and rosewood fretboard. Our guitars were crafted strictly according to the original sketch and data, the shape and size and all other aspects are just the same as the original guitar.

Jimmy Page Dragon Telecaster Finish

As to the finish, the original dragon pattern was drawn by Jimmy Page himself, and ours were hand painted by our professional luthiers. Compared to Jimmy Page, we would not be better than master Jimmy Page, but we are sure the painting is at least as the same, if not better than, the original guitar. Furthermore, we can modify the finish according to your personal demand.

Jimmy Page Dragon Telecaster Headstock

The headstock of the original Jimmy Page Dragon Telecaster is a Fender 59 telecaster headstock, but for unknown reason, Jimmy Page wiped the original logo off, so we have no logo on the headstock of our customized guitar.

Jimmy Page Dragon Telecaster Pickguard

The original pickguard was said to be a transparent pickguard with a foil under it to make a reflection effect. But the foil tends to darken as time goes by, so we offer a mirror pickguard to achieve a perfect effect, and it looks much closer to the original guitar.

Jimmy Page Dragon Telecaster Pickups

The pickups of the original 59 telecaster guitar are Fender single-coil pickups, and we can offer other alternative brands such as Wilkinson and Fender and other single-coil pickups from low end to high end products.

Songs ever performed with the Jimmy Page Dragon Telecaster by Jimmy Page

Jimmy page used the Dragon Tele to record the first album of Led Zeppelin, and also used it in his early tour in 1968-1969. In 1971, Jimmy used it in recording the great solo Stairway to Heaven in studio.

If you are one of Jimmy Page's fans and interested to the Jimmy Page Dragon Telecaster, our Dragon tele would be your best choice, because our guitar is the most similar custom made guitar strictly following the original parameters and the original design sketch.
