The  EDS-1275 and Jimmy Page

The EDS-1275 is a doubleneck electric guitar introduced in 1963. It is the original model and set up that was so iconic in the early 70s. Popularized by both rock and jazz musicians, it was called "the coolest guitar in rock." Perhaps few guitars adequately express the true spirit of classic rock excess like the EDS-1275 double neck. During the 1970s, you could find an EDS-1275 in the hands of many legendary guitar players—most notably, Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page. Throughout Led Zeppelin's golden years in the 70s, Page's majestic double neck was a fixture of the band's legendary live shows; just the sight of the iconic, distinctive Double Neck, slung around Page's neck spellbound audiences and elicited their howling approval.

The story goes that he started playing the double neck guitar due to necessity. When the band were working out how to perform Stairway to Heaven in concert, Page needed a way to play both the quiet beginning part and the searing solo and ending. He decided that the 12 string part of the guitar would allow him to do the beginning and then allow him to switch seamlessly to the 6 string for the blistering ending. Besides, his EDS-1275 was used for playing other great songs, “The Song Remains the Same” and “The Rain Song”. Thirty years later, Page is still the artist most closely associated with this model.

The History of EDS-1275

The forerunner of the EDS-1275 was called the EMS-1235. From 1958 to 1961 these were produced as custom-order twin-necked hollow-body instruments with two 6-string necks, one being a short-scale necktuned to a higher octave; from 1962 to 1967 it had a solid body. In 1963, the solid-body EDS-1275 was designed, resembling the SG model; this version of the doubleneck was available until 1968, and were being produced again in 1977. The EDS-1275 is often referred to as the "SG double neck" due to its similar shape, although both necks of the 1275 have a shorter scale fret board, and they have fixed tail pieces while the SG has an adjustable one. The original guitar was available in jet black, cherry, sunburst, and white.

Features of Our Jimmy Page SG EDS-1275

Our guitar is a precise duplicate of Page's original EDS-1275 guitar. They were replicated totally handmade and in accordance with the original construction and data, the form and measurements and all other parts are just the same as the original guitar. The body is created of mahogany, just the identical as the authentic Page's EDS-1275, together with rosewood fretboard and maple neck. Two solid maple necks are set on a surprisingly lightweight.

Our Jimmy Page Double Neck was replicated based on the specifications of Page's original EDS-1275 double-neck model that boasted a 12-string electric on top and a six-string electric on bottom.

The pickups of the original EDS-1275 are traditionally the 490R/498T Alnico II humbuckers. But The pick-ups we utilised are Wilkinson pick-ups, which is not simply quality guaranteed but also affordable for most people. Besides, Wilkinson pick-ups' sound effect is very close to the original one. So Wilkinson pick-ups are what we suggested.

There is a three-way selector switch to switch between the two necks. This makes it possible to set the guitar to have both guitars on at the same time. The guitar also has two volume and two tone controls.

So what are your options if you want to go double neck? Well, you can shell out a ton of cash for a vintage one or you can spend the same and buy a new one. If you don’t want to drop a ton of coin on an original one, you can of course get a brand new copy of the EDS-1275 at a fraction of the price. We can’t speak that the quality of our guitars is the best, but they have some truly great features for the right price. It will satisfy a lot of musicians' desires.
