Metallica and James Hetfield

When it comes to heavy metal band, we will think of Metallica. It was easily the best, most influential heavy metal band of the '80s. Responsible for bringing the genre back to Earth, the bandmates looked and talked like they were from the street, shunning the usual rockstar games of metal musicians during the early '80s. Metallica also expanded the limits of thrash, using speed and volume not for their own sake, but to enhance their intricately structured compositions. 

While when it comes to defining Metallica, most people use James Hetfield as their guide. There's never any bullshit with James and there's never any shirking of duties. Example? When he threw his back out on the Summer Sanitarium 2000 tour, James ploughed his way through three weeks of intense physical therapy in four days, according to his physical therapist. And when the going got really tough, and James needed help in 2001, he sought it out, took it on and came back stronger than ever. It is precisely this sort of fierce, unbending dedication, devotion and spirit which has made James such an inspirational focal point through the years for millions of fans.

 

 

As one of James' current tour guitars, the purple Les Paul is very rare to see for most of James' fans. The original guitar has been completely customized in 1977. Actually, this guitar is a Custom Shop model Les Paul, built just for James. There is no production of this model with purple finish and its probably one of James’s favorite Les Pauls.

He acquired it during the St Anger era and has used it live until 2006-2007. Now he uses it for warming up in the tuning room. As usual, the upper toggle switch is inactive and a new working one has been placed in place of one of the knobs.
