About James Hetfield

 

James Alan Hetfield (born August 3, 1963) is famous as rhythm guitarist, co-founder, main songwriter, and lead vocalist for the American heavy metal band Metallica. Hetfield co-founded Metallica in October 1981. Since then, Metallica has won nine Grammy Awards and released nine studio albums, three live albums, four extended plays and 24 singles.

During the mid-1990s, ESP produced the first of his signature model guitars. To date, Hetfield has had a few signature guitars with the company. This new design was given the name MX-250II (and later just the MX-II, as the 250 referred to the price).This is the most famous model that James Hetfield uses. James Hetfield used Numerous ESP Explorer MX250 models; “Papa Het” is one of the most well-known guitars. It features a burning Tire with wings and the words "Since 1963", indicating Hetfield's birth year James later added the spider webs and probably designed the headstock ESP logo himself.

 

There are various speculations about “Papa Het” design. Some think it is James’ favorite graphic pattern, because James’ Left forearm lateral has the same tattoo.

 

Some say that “Papa” is the alternative name of “Father” and “Het” is the abbreviation of “Hetfield”. Maybe this design is to express James’ deep love to his kinds or something else.
